EO/AAThis position is responsible for assisting the physician and providing medical care through preventing, diagnosing, treating and rehabilitating all injuries sustained by patients and athletes who receive injuries while participating in various events or athletic events. The Athletic Trainer : Orthopaedic Technician will work under the direction of the attending physician to ensure proper care and optimum outcomes in a cost effective manner consistent with professional standards of practice.Coordinates the work of an area in the department in mission, vision, and values.Drives the operation in alignment of goals and strategy of the department.Drives operations in alignment with policies and procedures.May be responsible for the training and education of staff and may be required to lead and participate in clinical program development.Assists physicians in research with an emphasis on a post:operative database and follow:up with post:operative patients, as needed.Obtains patient history, performs physical exams, educates patients and answers questions, organize notes and radiographs, casting/splinting.Reviews patient records, perform patient assessment, establish functional goals and design rehabilitative treatment plans in collaboration with the physician, patient and family.Applies, adjusts and removes orthopaedic devices and instructs patients in their use.Records in patientA?s chart, condition, progress and assessment for review by the orthopaedic surgeon.Provides physical therapy treatments, prescribes exercise, and administers various therapeutic techniques including: electrotherapy, heat therapy and cryotherapy.Provides intervention in accordance with the physicianA?s orders and established plan of care, and assess effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment to achieve goals.Assesses educational needs of the patient, family or caregiver, and provides education to meet those needs, and develops plans for discharge. Instructs patients and families in procedures to be continued at municates with patient, family, caregivers, and members of the multidisciplinary team to promote the maximum benefit of care and rehabilitation.Prepares for therapeutic and diagnostic injection.Applies skin, skeletal, and manual traction.Assures all documentation is kept up to date and in a professional manner, according to clinic and hospital protocols. May obtain preoperative consents and research informed consents.Works within scope of both athletic trainer and orthopeadic technologist according to NATA and NBCOT guidelines.May be required to participate in outreach activities including athletic event coverage, health and fitness exhibitions, presentations, and lectures.Help support the clinical and didactic education of the UniversityA?s CAATE approved Athletic Training Education Program students and Graduate staff and participate as an Approved Clinical Instructor.
